The FVXC
Series is an informal competition for both HG and
PG pilots.
: The FVXC Series will run on just 2 weekends, one in the Fraser Valley, and one in Pemberton:
:
There are no set open or close launch windows, start
times, or a specific task. Pilots will launch
when they want, fly whatever course they desire (similar
to the Willi Muller XC Challenge), and then submit their GPS
for scoring at the end of the day. Scoring will
be by CompeGPS optimization. By this scoring
system, FAI triangles and out-and-returns are scored
with more points than open distance flights. The point
is to fly a course that maximizes your points for
the day, taking into account the weather conditions,
amount of flying time available, etc. you have for
your flight. Multiple flights from the designated
daily launch are allowed (ie. reflights are OK).
However only your 1 BEST flight per day will
count for scoring. As well, only your 3 BEST flights over the 4 days will count. So if you miss a day due to other commitments, you still have a chance to win!
Daily launch venue TBA the morning of each competition
day, via the West Coast Soaring Club general forum.
Flying sites will be in the Fraser Valley,
most likely Mount Woodside or Lower Bridal Falls.
All pilot meeting locations and times, daily
information, download locations, etc, will be announced
via the WCSC general forum.
Pilots are responsible for their own transportation
up the mountain, and for their own retrieves.
The meet/safety frequency will be 146.415 MHz, unless
otherwise indicated.
Both hanggliders and paragliders will compete on the
same days, but each will compete in their own division.
At the end of the 4 days the Series champions
(1st, 2nd, 3rd) for both divisions will be announced.
Winners are decided based on their cumulative
scores from their best 3 flights (not 4) over all competition days.
:
HPAC insurance, WCSC membership (temporary memberships
available), Woodside LZ pass (for Woodside only, temporary
passes available), and compatible GPS (Garmin preferrably).
A GPS is required. Download cables will be
supplied for Garmin models. Pilots using a non-Garmin
GPS must supply their own download cable.
:
This year, you will have the choice of paying up front ($15.00 CAD for all 4 days), or paying by the day ($5/day for the first 3 days, and your 4th day is free). This will allow pilots who only want to fly 1 weekend, or fewer days, to spend less than those wanting to fly all 4 days. The money collected will go towards prizes, and the Canadian World Teams for 2009.
:
Prizes will be given for the following categories: HG Open Class (all types), HG Sport Class (King-posted only), PG Open Class (all types), and PG Sport Class (DHV 1-2 and below). Nature of prizes will be determined by number of entrants and entry fees collected.
:
