    Annual General Meeting
Monthly meetings generally take place on the 1st Tuesday of certain months, at 7:30pm. This year, the club will be having meetings at a few different locations. Look at the list above for the next scheduled meeting. Meetings are open to anyone, member or non-member. In addition to a little club business, meetings feature a presentation on anything from a pilot's recent flying trip, to a HAGAR discussion, to a treatise on meteorology, catching the latest flying clips or DVDs, or something equally interesting to club members.

447 Columbia Street New Westminster
Almost right next door to the Columbia skytrain station |   | The Heritage Grill is located at 447 Columbia Street in New Westminster, and is a funky little jazz restaurant with excellent food, an extensive bar, and an eclectic back meeting room for the club to use. There is lots of free street parking after 6 pm, and the restaurant is located almost right next to the Columbia sky train station. Please do not bring in ANY outside food or drink to a WCSC meeting. We used to meet at a great pub in Coquitlam, with great food, drinks, and a private meeting room. All at no charge to the club. Unfortunately, someone foolishly brought their own can of beer into a club meeting, then compounded the blunder by leaving the empty can for the staff to clean up. The next day the club was informed that we were no longer welcome to meet there. Having outside alcohol in their facility actually puts their liquor license in jeopardy. | | | | | | |   | | | |   | | | |   | | | | 2008 WCSC Reserve Deployment & Repack Clinic | | | March 15, 2008 9:00AM Eagle Ranch (FlyBC)
This year we have invited Aaron Swepston and Larry Jorgenson to come up from Washington state to run the clinic, and offer some fresh perspectives.
As usual, paraglider and hang glider pilots will be able to hang in a simulator and practice multiple deployments, and of course, have your parachute checked and repacked professionally for a very low price.
Repacks will be done in the order that pilots arrive and sign in for the clinic, so plan to come early. If it's flyable, you'll be given a scheduled time to land and get your repack done.
Price for the clinic is only $20, and that includes deployment instruction and discussion, deployment practice on the simulator, and 1 repack.
Manufacturers advise repacking your chute at least once per year. Plan to attend this great clinic and get it done properly and inexpensively.
There may be BBQ, open fire, or potluck dinner after the clinic is done, and after we do some flying, if the weather is good (details to follow)!

This is a two day spot landing contest for both hang gliders and paragliders. The event will be held on the beach at Lake Side Park where pilots will be scored on their accuracy and landing form. Pilots can make as many attempts as they wish, but only their three best landings will count for their final score. Sunday morning is the race to the beach. Pilots are timed from when they break the line at the top of Chelan Butte to the point where their feet touch again at Lake Side Parks beach.
Saturday night there is a BBQ for the pilots and their families at Lake Side Park and the awards ceremony Sunday afternoon. Viewing can be done from either the top of Chelan Butte with it’s spectacular 360 degree view or from the grassy lawn of Lake Side Park, a wonderful place to bring the family for a picnic. | | | | | | 2008 Fraser Valley XC Series (Weekend-1) | | | May 10, 2008 through May 11, 2008 Fraser Valley, BC
This will be an informal competition for both PG and HG pilots.
Dates: May 10-11, and May 31-June 1. There are no rain days.
Format: There are no set open or close launch windows, start times, or a specific task. Pilots will launch when they want, fly whatever course they desire (similar to the Willi Muller XC Challenge), and then submit their GPS for scoring at the end of the day. Scoring will be by CompeGPS optimization. By this scoring system, FAI triangles and out-and-returns are scored with more points than open distance flights. The point is to fly a course that maximizes your points for the day, taking into account the weather conditions, amount of flying time available, etc. you have for your flight. Multiple flights from the designated daily launch are allowed (ie. reflights are OK). However only your 1 BEST flight per day will count for scoring. As well, only your 3 BEST flights over the 4 days will count. So if you miss a day due to other commitments, you still have a chance to win!
Daily launch venue TBA the morning of each competition day, via the West Coast Soaring Club general forum. Flying sites will be in the Fraser Valley. All pilot meeting locations and times, daily information, download locations, etc, will be announced via the WCSC general forum.
Pilots are responsible for their own transportation up the mountain, and for their own retrieves. The meet/safety frequency will be 146.415 MHz, unless otherwise indicated.
Both hanggliders and paragliders will compete on the same days, but each will compete in their own division. At the end of the 4 days the Series champions will be announced.
Requirements: HPAC insurance, WCSC membership (temporary memberships available), Woodside LZ pass (for Woodside only, temporary passes available), and compatible GPS (Garmin preferrably). A GPS is required. Download cables will be supplied for Garmin models. Pilots using a non-Garmin GPS must supply their own download cable.
Entry fee: This year you will have the choice of paying up-front ($15 for all 4 days), or paying by-the-day ($5/day for your first 3 days and your 4th day is free). This will allow pilots who only want to fly 1 weekend for example, or less days, to not spend as much as those who want to fly all available days. The money collected will go towards prizes and the Canadian World Teams for 2009.
Registration: To register, please email Nicole McLearn (Nicole.mclearn@REMOVETHISgmail.com). Payment can be made in person each competition day, at a club meeting, or online via Paypal (www.paypal.com and the payee is payment@REMOVETHISwestcoastsoaringclub.com).
Prizes will be given for the following categories: HG Open Class (all types), HG Sport Class (King-posted only), PG Open Class (all types), and PG Sport Class (DHV 1-2 and below). Nature of prizes will be determined by number of entrants and entry fees collected.
