Re: Mid air / Pilot Liability / Fairness

Waivers are quite enforceable in BC (with exceptions for gross negligence and minors) and defendants often have the opportunity to recover legal costs. Any lawyer in BC with half a clue would recommend their client think twice in pursuing a claim when a signed waiver is in place. A few examples: Aus...

Re: Mid air / Pilot Liability / Fairness

"The less-experienced pilot is under a significant amount of pressure to pay from both the other pilot and his acquaintances." I'd wish the pilot demanding payment good luck. If they are HPAC members, they have signed the waiver preventing, in part, this very situation. "By signing th...

My favorite line item from the 2017 Budget:
Annual Directors Meeting: $17, 592.98

11% of total expenses for a meeting. :D

"See it as a challenge to come up with some."

In a case like this I am inclined to think along the lines of 'less is more'. :)

Re: BCHPA New Wevsite

The Minecraft and 'Like a Boss' images should be replaced. It reduces the sense of professionalism that the site is otherwise trying to convey.

Re: New WCSC Website (Sneak Peek)

"If something's important enough, you should try. Even if the probable outcome is failure." - some guy named Elon who will likely never amount to much of anything. The refresh is a good idea - the demographic of the pilot community is changing and we should adapt to what they have come to ...

Re: New WCSC Website (Sneak Peek)

I like it. Especially the site overviews.

That said ... in the interest of diversity, we should have cat pictures in addition to the dog one.

Re: Spot Owners....

Would be interesting to hear InReach owners comments on this; do they ever experience delays or missed signals? I have had the web portal fail to reflect the track log, yet an update message appeared via Twitter. *shrug* The two-way comm capability of the InReach has proven useful on trips overseas...

New comp posted for Valle de Bravo.

The gent I was under the guidance of during this past Christmas, Marko Hrgetic, is organizing a comp of a slightly different flare for January of 2018. Titled XCSkyRace - the format is different from the traditional RtG (Race to Goal). A start/end cylinder is defined each day and using that start/en...

"Over Woodside [...] Overlying class C starts at 6500 ft [...] - you need HAGAR to fly this " If Class C (from Wikipedia for Canadian Airspace): "For entry into a Class C control zone, an aircraft needs a functional Mode C transponder and an ATC clearance." Might involve a bit mo...

Re: Castelo, Governador Valadares, + Baixo Guandu: Brazil 2017 with XCBrazil

Finally getting caught up after having transitioned the blog to something a little cleaner. A little one on one time with one of the guides, Rob, in the midst of the Brazilian XC League (90+ competitors). To sum it up: "This is one of those days when you can’t help but love this sport." (a...

Re: This forum vs. LINE

Each has evolved into a different purpose simply based on the User Experience (UX) it manifests. Simply put put, the fewer the clicks needed to share information, the more often the application will be used. The more often the application is used, the greater the ability to share time sensitive info...

Re: HPAC Announcements

As the years pile on, one tends to reminisce more -likely due to the realization that there lies fewer years ahead than behind. Holidays even more so. Reflecting back, I recall one piece of sage advice from a parental unit during my youth. "If you put half as much effort into fixing the problem...
