WCSC & SOSC PRESENTS "GLIDEHOUSE" 2017
The double feature fly-in weekend extravaganza for all wing types. This is happening this weekend so mark it in your calendar.

Bring Your Friends and Family:
You are invited to bring along your family and non-flying friends too.

DAY 1 (May 20th)
Site: Woodside
Where: Eagle Ranch LZ
Meet at Eagle Ranch anytime during the day for BBQ set-up and dropping off supplies. Then flag yourself a ride up to launch.
RSVP: Please RSVP to President@westcoastsoaringclub.com
I will put you on the list and make sure there are enough drinks and food for everyone.

Post Flying BBQ:
There will be a BBQ, Bon Fire and a special FlyBC birthday celebration.
The main course will be provided by the club as well as non-alcoholic bevvies. However it still will be a bit of a potluck; so plan to bring an appetiser, side dish, salad, or dessert to share. Sometimes we score a beer sponsor. Of course, I will work to make that happen, but if we don't, please come prepared with your favourite cold bevvy BYOB.

DAY 2 (May 21and 22nd)
Site: Hedley
Where: Hedley LZ/ Campground
RSVP: Please RSVP to President@westcoastsoaringclub.com

UPDATES: Please stay tuned to the LINE app and forum for any updates that may occur in between now and the "Glidehouse" weekend.

Volunteers:
If you have any interest in helping to make this event great, please reach out to President@westcoastsoaringclub.com and let us know you are a champ and want to help. We are looking for drivers and anyone with a positive can do attitude.

Additional Information:

Woodside
Active Launch Windows: Use mountain etiquette and do not set up in the Active Launch Windows. Only enter the Launch Windows with your gear if and when you are ready and intending to launch. If in Launch Windows or Top landing Approach areas, be cautious and aware of flight activities in all directions. Keep and eye on the Hang Gliders and allow them to launch when they are finished setting up.

Prime Launching times for Woodside recently have been from 1-5 with flights extending till dusk. Those launching at 4 pm reported having great flights with abundant lift. Those flying early in the day and at peak heating reported strong and turbulent conditions. (Please choose suitable launching times and conditions to your skill level) (Some P2 & H2s have been heading out and getting in early training flights before 10 am and landing before conditions ramp up. Then having great late afternoon into evening flights)

Hedley
Use the same etiquette as mentioned above. Also, make sure to get a briefing from Rob once onsite. Hedley can get windy and unforgiving make sure to ask the local experienced pilots what they think of the conditions. Launch conditions can be very deceiving as it is in a bit of a wind shadow.

Tidbit of info on Hedly

Post by pecofly »

My Experience with Hedly tho rather limited as far as PG is concerned has always in the end , been exciting.
Most of my flying experience there has been with HG.
There are two things that should be cautioned with Hedly
One is the Venturi effect that is often seen there as the valley heats up and the other is the "river effect "
My caution is simply , if you are not "very high", you are in the "river effect " and safe travel up and down this valley will be hard to judge.
Beginner pilots should only fly there early am ( in perfect conditions) under the guidance of an experienced pilot.
This is a serious mountain valley site and needs to be treated as such.
Otherwise, Hedly is an awesome flying site with amazing scenery and potential for huge altitude gains xc potential.
This weekend is looking awesome !

Agree with pecofly. With strong spring and summer thermic and/or wind conditions in Hedley can be very challenging.
Winds can be tricky as the valley is narrow. Listen to local pilots, watch what happens when they fly and take care.

Comrade Martin

Hey Martin,

It was an awesome success. There were probably 50 people at Woodside. Lot's of wings in the air enjoying the perfect soaring conditions.
The BBQ was delicious and we also celebrated Colleens birthday. Prizes were given out. We awarded Mark Tulloch with a miniature model of "Mother Woodside" for his 30 years of service repaking reserves. volunteering at almost all if not every repack during that time.

Then the caravan of people moved to Hedley where the conditions couldn't have been better. Some of the best flyable conditions I have ever seen at Hedley.

Lot's of photos on the Line and Fusbook.

Thank you to everyone for making this a huge success!

Best,
Tyler
