WCSC & GMFT Presents an Exclusive Grouse Mt. Fly-In
To celebrate our many years flying at Grouse Mt., we’ve decided to host a fly-in this weekend (Aug 12th)
This event is for P3 pilots or above ONLY and you MUST RSVP to get on the Guest list before the event day. If you are not a P3, come help us out as a volunteer.

Sorry, no Hang Gliders. The LZ has become too tight now.

If you haven’t flown Grouse in a while, or want to join as a Guest pilot for the first time, or want to do some flying and socialising, here’s your chance!

DAY (Aug 12th)
Site: Grouse Mt.
Who: P3. If this will be your first time flying Grouse, please visit https://gmft.org/flying-grouse/ for the ratings and requirements, and apply at https://gmft.org/register/
Cost: $20
Where: 9:30 AM pilots’ meeting at the Grouse LZ (upper field, Cleveland Park, across the road from Cleveland Dam on Nancy Greene Way

How: (We also need volunteers for the following positions):

Someone at the LZ will give a conditions report, and hand out complimentary gondola passes
A shuttle from the LZ to the gondola
Someone on launch to help set up gliders and provide help as needed

RSVP: Please RSVP to President@westcoastsoaringclub.com
EVERYONE MUST RSVP. This is a RSVP only event.

Post Flying BBQ:
We will do burgers and drinks (possibly at Grouse), for an apres-flying experience. Of course, there are all the Grouse-related activities to take in such as watching the bird show, lumberjack show, grizzly bears, etc. We are also looking into getting additional complimentary gondola tickets for your spouse/significant other so bring them along on Aug 12

UPDATES: Please stay tuned to the LINE app and forum for any updates that may occur in between now and the "Grouse Mt." Fly-In.

Volunteers:
We need a few volunteers, please reach out to President@westcoastsoaringclub.com and let us know you are a champ and want to help. We are looking for drivers and anyone with a positive can do attitude.

Sincerely,
Tyler G.
President
West Coast Soaring Club

P.S. Anyone who is not yet a GMFT guest or member who wants to fly on (Aug 12th) must get their application in by the end of Saturday, August 5th (so that Nicole doesn’t get inundated with requests to fly at the last second).

Hey! This should be a lot of fun ... It certainly was yesterday: https://vimeo.com/227688379

And if you're wondering about the landing ... yes, the trees have been growing, but it's not quite as tight as reputed:

I just want to chime in here to emphasize a few things:

You need to RSVP ahead of time, before August 5. No just showing up on August 12 and hoping to fly. The reason for this is that Grouse Mountain is a PRIVATELY-OWNED flying site so we have to go by Grouse Resorts' (and their lawyers') rules...the jumping-through-the-hoops is a necessary evil for this site. All pilots must have HPAC insurance, be P3-rated or above, and must be vetted ahead of time with 2 local references who can attest to your ability to takeoff from a tight launch surrounded by obstacles with excellent glider control, and your ability to land in a tight, thermic LZ surrounded by multimillion dollar homes, with little room for error. All pilots MUST be on the approved-pilot list before Grouse Resorts will let you on their property with your paraglider, and this list can't just be updated the morning of the event.

As this is a high-profile urban flying site with thousands of members of the public watching (and filming) us, we have to be SUPER-CAREFUL about who flies there, no accidents or incidents, so we don't get negative press exposure and lose the site after 30+ years of enjoyment.

If you are interested in flying at Grouse on August 12 (or really anytime this summer), please apply at https://gmft.org/register/ and have your 2 references ready to be contacted. We love introducing new pilots to the site, flying over the city, watching the cruise ships sail by, looking at Stanley Park, YVR, Georgia Straight, and Vancouver Island. It's a beautiful site but very sensitive!

If you are a P1 or P2 pilot, or an H-anything pilot (or want to fly someplace with less hoops to jump through!), there is an another flying event going on in Clearwater, BC! You can find the information at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1203572 ... 843883898/
