Whistler rainbow flank launch

Post by bj murray »

Looking for any knowledge about flying from there
We live in alpine and often see people soaring the ridge
Would like to join someone who's used the launch before

... Is that a PG-only site? I've never heard of it before...

Flights from Rainbow launch can be found on Leonardo:

Its a hike and fly site and if I remember right the hiking part takes about an hour. Apart from the hiking I don't have experience with launch requirements for HG, so can't comment.
Its a morning site. For more detail try to contact local pilots (Whistler, Pemberton).

In this case the 'CA' is refering to CANADA. It seems that you didn't actually check any of the tracks that have been posted there.

There have been some awesome flights from there. Nearly 100 km flights.

It is an Advanced site with strong afternoon conditions, good potential x-country towards Pemberton.

Fairly direct
Logging road from the top of alpine drive then cut left onto the flank trail
About 1 hour
Maybe 1 1/2 hours

The Flank trail is an easy grade for walking but it's a lot of extra distance.

On the mt biking map below: start at the end of Alpine Way, follow blue switchback or gray short cut north to intersection with yellow trail. Turn left (south) and follow to launch. Don't know if there is a shorter short cut.
