Central Fraser Valley, South Western British Columbia,
15 km northeast of Abbotsford use Number 3 Road or
Whatcom Rd. exit off of Highway 1,
Follow North Parallel Rd. to Lower Sumas Mountain
Rd. to Batt Rd. and then to the summit on the gravel
road. Park at the gate and hike for approximately 1 km.
Exit Highway 1 at No 3 Road and cross over to the
NW side. Follow North Parallel Rd. NE to where it
ends near the Vedder canal bridge.
Not suitable due to hiking only access.
Good flying in winter and early spring in easterly
Type of Site:
with Ridge soaring mainly, some Thermal. Due to infrequent use launch can be overgrown.
No cross country flying due to proximity to Abbotsford airport.
Description of Launch:
Faces east at 2950' (900 m) ASL. It is best to go with a guide for the first time. Take small trail to the right approximately 1 km from the gate. Locate a trail to the right before reaching the towers. Follow the trail through the trees and across a cut to an open area. There are two possible launch spots within about 50 meters distance of each other. The spots are sheltered. Make sure to check the true wind direction and strength and beware of rotor.
Description of LZ:
Beware of venturi and strong winds on the ground. Do not land in any crop fields. Possible landing zone in the field at cul de sac ending of North Parallel Road, which tends to be out of the venturi effect area on the sides of Sumas. Alternative landing near the highway exit at NO. 3 Road or Whatcom Road.
Good clearance two wheel drive possible

Fraser Valley Regional District Park, so be very respectful
of the site.
